This past week, we took to the streets twice (!) and came away reminded of why community-centered active travel is at the heart of what we do.
Rusch Hollow, Chapel Hill — Thursday

On Thursday evening, we hosted a community bike ride in Rusch Hollow, a Habitat for Humanity Orange County neighborhood in Chapel Hill. Five riders came out to loop through Rusch Hollow and Phoenix Place, enjoying the summer air and the streets that connect their community. A heartfelt thank you to Rusch Hollow resident Linda Parson for her support in coordinating the event. Evenings like this are made possible by neighbors who show up for their community.
Riders wrapped up the evening with popsicles and good conversation. It was a simple, joyful reminder of what's possible when people come together to move through their neighborhoods on their own terms.
Fairview — Friday
The very next afternoon, we headed to Fairview for a bike ride that brought together community members of all ages. While the younger riders gathered with Jessica from the Carolina Hunger Initiative to learn how to prepare healthy snacks, the rest of the group set out on a 2-mile ride through the neighborhood. Some participants even rode ho
me with brand new helmets to roll the streets safely.
A beautiful day spent outside together closed out with more snacks, popsicles, and the warmth of community connection.
More to Come
These rides are part of our ongoing community transit initiatives, working toward neighborhoods where active travel is safe, accessible, and joyful for everyone. Stay tuned for more updates this summer. 💙💚
