UNC Engagement Week Success!

FFORC | March 4, 2025

Congrats to our team members for presenting during UNC Engagement Week!

Photo 1: Gabby & Brett shared their experiences implementing participatory grantmaking programming for a cohort of community gardens.

Participatory grantmaking is a funding model that involves communities in decision-making about how to distribute funds, ultimately improving outcomes and addressing power imbalances between funders and communities typically found in traditional funding structures.

Photos 2-3: Molly, along with students and community members, hosted a policy slam to get people talking about how new policies can be used to create a more equitable city.

A "policy slam" is a competitive event where individuals or teams present their policy proposals or solutions in a concise and engaging manner, often with a time limit, similar to a "lightning talk" format, aiming to highlight the strengths of their policy idea and spark discussion around it.

Carolina Engagement week highlights authentic, effective and sustainable collaborations and programs between UNC-Chapel Hill and community partners across North Carolina.
