The Fairview Youth In Action (FYIA) internship is in full swing this summer with eight (8) new interns! These first 3 weeks have been full of learning, listening, and exploring!

📖 From powerful conversations at the Occaneechi Replica Village with Beverly Payne, Gerald Shanklin, and Shanklin’s Press, to walks through Fairview’s parks with Sayoko as we uncovered stories rooted in oral histories and local landmarks—we’re grounding ourselves in the past to help shape the future. Thank you to Alliance for Historic Hillsborough for the experience!

🪲We’ve also learned from Stephanie Trueblood about the Ridgewalk Greenway and the thoughtful planning that helps connect our neighborhoods. Even through the summer heat, our curiosity hasn’t slowed down—thanks to Diana and Pascale, we’ve discovered the vital role of macroinvertebrates and why protecting our creeks, rivers, and ecosystems matters more than ever. (Town of Hillsborough and Piedmont Conservation Council)

🥕 We’re thrilled to announce a continued and growing partnership with Farmer Foodshare, made possible by the support of PORCH - Hillsborough! This summer, 50 families will receive bi-weekly boxes of fresh, local produce and eggs during the summer—even more than last year! These boxes don’t just offer nutritious food—they’re about nourishment, connection, and honoring the farmers and families that make up our community. A heartfelt thank-you to PORCH and Farmer Foodshare for your continued commitment to healthy food access and community well-being. Your partnership helps our youth lead with purpose and give back in a meaningful way.

📖 Desde conversaciones poderosas en el Poblado Réplica Occaneechi con Beverly Payne, Gerald Shanklin de Shanklin’s Press, hasta recorridos por los parques de Fairview junto a Sayoko, donde descubrimos historias arraigadas en relatos orales y lugares emblemáticos locales—nos estamos conectando con el pasado para ayudar a dar forma al futuro. ¡Gracias a @Alliance for Historic Hillsborough por esta experiencia!

🪲 También aprendimos con Stephanie Trueblood sobre el Ridgewalk Greenway y la planificación cuidadosa que ayuda a conectar nuestros vecindarios. A pesar del calor del verano, la curiosidad no ha disminuido—gracias a Diana y Pascale, hemos descubierto el papel vital de los macroinvertebrados y por qué es más importante que nunca proteger nuestros arroyos, ríos y ecosistemas.
