OUR MOVEMENT STARTS HERE at the Carrboro Film Festival

FFORC | January 28, 2025

Over the weekend, the Carrboro Film Festival and the Southern Documentary Fund presented the festival's Closing Film "OUR MOVEMENT STARTS HERE," a powerful documentary about grassroots activism and environmental justice in the American South directed by John Rash and Melanie Dang Ho. The film centers the story of a rural community in North Carolina who amplified the concept of environmental racism in 1982 by fighting the state's toxic landfill. Following the screening, there was a special Q&A with the director (John Rash), cast, and crew, including our team member and community research partner, Reverend William Kearney, who continues to advocate and inspire a new generation of environmental justice activists to push the movement into a future.

Upcoming screenings can be found here: https://southdocs.org/project/movementstartshere/
