SNAP-Ed supports local Farmers Markets and strengthens the local food system.

FFORC | June 18, 2025

Residents across North Carolina benefit from SNAP-Ed, a tiny but mighty program that helps families eat healthier, move more, and save money in the long run.

SNAP-Ed also supports local Farmers Markets and strengthens the local food system.

Farmer’s markets play a key role in promoting food and nutrition security by offering fresh, locally grown produce that supports healthier diets and stronger communities. These markets are also vital for supporting local farmers, their families, and the local food system economy. Not to mention, they’re a great spot for family fun and community connection!

One of our partners, Warren County Farmers Market, is increasing access to fresh, locally grown produce and goods and making it fun for children and families!

“My favorite part is seeing the smiles on folks’ faces and supporting habits that are beneficial to their health... We have families that come every weekend with their children [to access] more fresh food.”~ Tamara, Warren Co. Farmers Market Manager

The Warren County Farmers Market market accepts SNAP EBT, Senior Vouchers, and is now in its second year of offering the Double Bucks Program. This means SNAP-eligible shoppers can double their dollars—spend $10, get $20—to buy more fresh fruits and veggies.

These benefits are valuable tools for reducing food insecurity and fostering community health and economic vitality. By providing these programs, we make it easier for a diverse range of people—including kids, seniors, veterans, and families—to shop at farmer’s markets, promoting healthier eating habits.
