🥕🥬Success Story: Farmer Foodshare Summer Program Feeds 50 Fairview Families! 🥬🥕

For the third consecutive summer, a collaborative effort between PORCH–Hillsborough, the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina (FBCENC), and Fairview Youth in Action has supported the bi-weekly distribution of Farmer Foodshare food boxes to 50 families in the Fairview community of Hillsborough.

This seasonal program is designed to address a critical gap in food access during the summer months, when school-based meal programs are typically unavailable. Each box includes a variety of locally grown fruits and vegetables, and a dozen local eggs, helping families maintain nutritious diets while supporting local farmers.

Access to healthy, affordable food is a cornerstone of community well-being and it's part of Activate! Plan. Programs like this help reduce food insecurity, improve health outcomes, and promote equity by ensuring that all families—regardless of income—can enjoy fresh, nourishing food.

In addition to improving food access, the program also fosters youth leadership and civic engagement through the active involvement of Fairview Youth in Action. This initiative highlights the power of community partnerships in creating sustainable, health-focused solutions.
